Psychedelics and Religious Experience
According to Jamie Beachy, PhD, psychedelics are changing the contemporary religious landscape as people from diverse religious commitments look to psychedelics for healing and expansion. Bringing their beliefs and values with them, some risk existential transformation and crisis with little support for integration. Spiritual care professionals trained in psychedelic care are well prepared to support spiritual and religious meaning-making in psychedelic sessions with skill and insight.
In this session, you’ll discover:
- An understanding of professional spiritual care and the contributions of chaplains to the field of psychedelic care
- An appreciation for the spiritual and religious needs that may be present for those seeking psychedelic healing and expansion
- Greater awareness of the ways that psychedelics are changing the contemporary American religious landscape
